Conor McGregor caught the attention of new UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos, commenting on a move to the lightweight division after his UFC 189 fight with Jose Aldo.
"We will take Aldo and we will take dos Anjos, without a problem," McGregor said in Los Angeles (via Marc Raimondi at MMAFighting.com). "The featherweights must beg now. They must beg for pardon, beg for forgiveness. If that's the case, if they apologize and beg, I'll leave the division. I won't terrorize them anymore. They can have their division back. They can go back to being on the prelims and I'll go to the lightweight division."
That led dos Anjos to respond, telling McGregor to stay at featherweight and concentrate on the fight he's got in front of him. Dos Anjos' comments over the weekend garnered a response back from McGregor on Monday during the London stop on the UFC 189 World Tour.
"There's another man who has spoke my name in vain," McGregor said. "And what happens is, when you speak my name in vain, no matter how many years down the line, I'm like an elephant - I'll never forget. I'll come and get you.
"So, guess what Rafael? I'm coming to get you, too."
Penick's Analysis: Don't expect McGregor to stop trying to get a rise out of his fellow competitors anytime soon. It's worked far too well for him to this point, and if he beats Jose Aldo, he's going to have no shortage of guys lining up to get a shot at him. If he moves up to lightweight sooner than later, a dos Anjos fight could be big as well, but for now, it's way too far down the line to take as a serious discussion.
