Ronda Rousey's next film project is now set, as Variety reports that she's joining "The Raid" star Iko Uwais to headline action film "Mile 22."

According the report, the film will explore "the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer, forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption."

"I am a huge fan of what Gareth [Evans] and Iko did on both 'Raid' films and I'm very excited at the possibility of working with Ronda and Iko to create a film in the spirit of this new wave of combat cinema emerging from Indonesia," said producer Peter Berg. "Ronda and Iko will be a very unique and powerful team."

Filming on "Mile 22" is set to begin in mid-may, after which Rousey will return to the Octagon for her next title defense.

Penick's Analysis: Both "Raid" films were highly regarded as action movies, and Uwais is going to be a high profile piece of the next Star Wars movie himself, so this seems like a good project for Rousey. It's also her first legitimate starring role, as the other film she's signed on for, "The Athena Project," hasn't yet begun production. The mid-May filming start means that she's out until the end of the summer or the fall at the earliest, so Cris "Cyborg" has time to prove she can make 135 lbs. for a fight in June or July to set that up for Rousey's return fight later this year.
