"[Palhares] may not be a bad guy, but when he fights, he's out there trying to hurt people. If he wants to play that game, then I'll go out there and try to hurt him. I'm not going to hold anything back because this guy is not out there to be my friend. He's out there to put me in the hospital. I'm going to go out there with the same mindset, and I'll put him in the hospital. I've already shown how effective American jiu-jitsu can be against Demian Maia, and I'm going to do it again with Rousimar Palhares. They are two of the very best when it comes to fighting on the ground, and he's going to be the second one of them I beat."
-Jake Shields talks to Duane Finley at BleacherReport.com about his intentions into his expected title fight with WSOF Champ Rousimar Palhares later this year.
Penick's Analysis: That's a great attitude for Shields to take into the Palhares fight, given he knows full well what Palhares is capable of. There have been a few fighters who have been able to negate Palhares' leg lock game, most notably Alan Belcher, and Shields has the type of ground attack to do the same. That's what makes that fight extremely intriguing, because both are really good in their submission attack, and that ground battle may be the best possible outside of the UFC.
