Alistair Overeem had a complete performance against Stefan Struve on Saturday at UFC on Fox 13, utilizing a smart gameplan to avoid any dangerous spots before stopping him late in the first round.
After the win, Overeem was pleased with the performance, and said he was going to take a short break before getting back in the cage again.
"We had a couple slip-ups, I guess. A lot has happened. My life has been in high gear for the last six years," Overeem said at the post-fight press conference (via MMAJunkie.com). "A lot has happened – a lot of good and a lot of bad – but here we are tonight with a very nice victory. It's an accumulation of a lot of years of hard work."
"Tonight went very well, I'm going to rest up, and I'm going to sit down with my coaches. I'm not going to take too long off, but I am going to take some time off. After the Rothwell fight, I didn't take time off, and now I feel it's time to go easy, go slow on the talk – not talk too much."
Penick's Analysis: Overeem had probably his best fight in the UFC since beating Brock Lesnar in that win last night. At the very least, it's given him new life in his UFC career, because a loss would have been his fourth in five fights. But he got the win, looked good doing so, and if he wants a little break, he can take one. I'm not sure what his next step is in the UFC's heavyweight division, but that's something he and his team can figure out.
