Kelvin Gastelum is making a quick turnaround after picking up a big win over Jake Ellenberger at UFC 180, as the UFC confirmed on Tuesday that he'll take on Tyron Woodley at UFC 183 on Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas.
The 23-year-old Gastelum was taking another step up in competition after scoring four straight wins in the Octagon, and moved to 10-0 overall with a first round submission over Ellenberger. It came on a fantastic transition off a takedown that saw him reverse and take Ellenberger's back. He landed some quick strikes and secured the choke.
He'll jump up the rankings once again against Woodley, who has won four of his six UFC fights, with decision losses to Jake Shields and now top contender Rory MacDonald. He bounced back from the MacDonald loss in his last outing, knocking out Dong Hyun Kim in just over a minute in China this August.
UFC 183 airs live on pay-per-view on January 31, headlined by the middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz.
