Brazilian lightweight Alan Patrick suffered a brutal broken jaw in training this week, taking him out of a fight with Beneil Dariush next month at UFC 179.
The UFC announced on Tuesday that Carlos Diego Ferreira will step in against Dariush next month, keeping the card as it stands with 11 fights.
The 29-year-old Ferreira is an undefeated lightweight who has picked up two UFC wins thus far already, and both in impressive fashion. After submitting TUF winner Colton Smith, Ferreira knocked out Ramsey Nijem last month at UFC 177.
Dariush has won two of three UFC bouts, with that loss coming against Nijem in April. He bounced back from the loss to submit Tony Martin last month.
UFC 179 comes to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Oct. 25, headlined by the UFC Featherweight Championship rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.
