...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
By Matt Pelkey, MMATorch Columnist Only days after it was announced that Frank Trigg had signed a new deal to return to the UFC, it looks like his first fight is already set. Sources confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Trigg will make his return at UFC 103 against top contender Josh Koscheck.
Koscheck recently pulled out of a fight at UFC 98 against Chris Wilson with an injury, but will be ready in time for UFC 103, expected for September, possibly in England. Koscheck hasn't fought since UFC 95, where he was upset and knocked out by undefeated newcomer Paulo Thiago. He won't come close to his goal of fighting six times this year, but he can put in a normal three if he's able to get in the octagon one more time after the Trigg fight.
Frank Trigg makes his return to the UFC after a four year absence. He went 2-3 in his previous stint, but his losses were to then-dominant welterweight champ Matt Hughes (twice) and to Georges St. Pierre. He's gone 7-2 worldwide since leaving the UFC with losses only to top ranked fighters Carlos Condit and Robbie Lawler, and impressive victories over Jason Miller and Kazuo Misaki. He's had most of his recent success as a middleweight, but he'll compete in the welterweight division when he makes his return.
*UPDATE* - Trigg has since stated that this fight is not set at this time.
Pelkey's Analysis: This is a helluva return fight for Trigg. Koscheck is still on the rebound and looking for a big win after his disappointing KO loss to Thiago. I'd still rather see Trigg as a middleweight. He fights better when he's not dehydrated from a weight cut, and its gonna be really tough to cut that weight now that he hasn't done it in a few years, plus the fact that he'll be 37 when he steps in to the cage with Koscheck. This is a good first fight for the 103 card, and if it indeed does take place in England, this fight could be a co-headliner.
