In hyping up this latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, UFC President Dana White said he believed there was a "Ronda Rousey" amongst the cast.
Rousey herself was asked whom she thought that fighter could be while speaking with Brazilian media this week, and she was quick in her answer.
"I definitely think it's Rose Namajunas," Rousey said (via Guilherme Cruz at MMAFighting.com). "I called it from the very beginning. As soon as I saw her, I saw this girl is special. I've been following her for two years. I only finally got to meet her. I've been stalking her on Instagram for year. It was so great to be able to meet her, and I wish her all the luck. I can't wait to see how she does in the season."
"She's got an amazing skill set, she's an exciting fighter. She takes risks, she's gorgeous, and she's charismatic. I really think she has all the tools that are needed in order to be the next really influential champion."
Penick's Analysis: The 22-year-old has gotten a lot of attention over the last few years, starting with several entertaining videos that went viral with her boyfriend Pat Barry, who was on the UFC's heavyweight roster at the time. Then her popularity reached a new level in her second professional fight when she pulled off a flying armbar over Kathina Catron in just 12 seconds at Invicta FC 5 in April of last year. Though she lost a decision to fellow TUF 20 cast member - and Team Melendez teammate - Tecia Torres in her last outing, she's got youth on her side to believe she can continue improving. She's got a lot of raw talent, and given an exciting style as well, she can go far in the UFC if she puts the wins together.
