UFC Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo currently sits at #2 on the list of top pound for pound fighters, but he believes he should be in that top slot.
However, Aldo doesn't entirely mind if fans and media don't place him there right now. In an interview with Ag. Fight in Brazil, Aldo said he feels himself that he's the best, but he's also continuously looking to improve.
"If you talk about skills, I feel that I'm the best in the world," he said (translated by Fernando Arbex at BloodyElbow.com). "But it doesn't mean that I think that I'm invincible and I'm still working to keep being a champion."
"If I'm the number one or I'm not, this is up to the fans and the media, though I have my opinion. The important thing is that I'm still evolving as a fighter and I have a lot to improve."
Penick's Analysis: Aldo's spot behind Jon Jones seems like the right one, but of course he believes he should hold that top spot himself. He's unbeaten in nearly nine years, he's one of the longest reigning Champions in UFC history, and he's been clearly above most of the competition he's faced. It may just be preference for the skills of one or the other at this point for whom you have in your own personal spot as pound for pound best, but Aldo's got a reason to be in that conversation.
