Renan Barao wasn't the only one missing a payday this past weekend. UFC President Dana White confirmed after the event that Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo also received no money for the event after missing weight and pulling out of the fight.
Barao's removal led to Joe Soto getting shifted to the main event, leaving Soto's originally scheduled opponent, Anthony Birchak, off the event as well. However, both Birchak and Cejudo's scheduled opponent, Scott Jorgensen, received their show and win money, as they were forced off the card due to circumstances beyond their control.
Cejudo's failed attempt to hit the 125 lb. flyweight limit was far from the first time he's had issues in cutting weight, and because of that history, White says he'll have to come fight at bantamweight if he wants to try fighting in the UFC.
"He can come back and try at a heavier weight or not try again," White said (via MMAJunkie.com). "He's got a history of doing this. It's not his first time, and if he stays at that weight, it won't be his last."
Penick's Analysis: Cejudo would be an asset to an organization if he wasn't such a flake. He's attempted and failed to make 125 lbs. now several times, and he's pulled out of four events in the last nine months alone. That lack of reliability is going to hamper him as he continues on, and his run in the UFC could come to an end before it starts if he doesn't get things in line.
