Four fighters earned an extra $50,000 for their efforts in a mostly enjoyable UFC 177 event on Saturday night in Sacramento.
A fun back and forth fight between Carlos Diego Ferreira and Ramsey Nijem earned the "Fight of the Night" award, a small consolation for Nijem after his TKO loss in the bout. He started off well in the first round, but after rocking Ferreira with a combination early on, it was Ferreira who took over late and into the second. The counter-strikes gave Ferreira the edge, and as Nijem engaged with his chin up and hands winging wildly, Ferreira knocked him down several times and finally finished it in the second round.
UFC Champ T.J. Dillashaw and lightweight Yancy Medeiros won the two "Performance of the Night" awards for their efforts, which both ended in their opponents going unconscious, though via very different means.
Dillashaw knocked out Joe Soto in the fifth round of the night's main event, making his first successful title defense when he cracked him with a head kick and put him out with a straight left.
As for Medeiros, he earns a very deserving award for his "reverse guillotine" finish over Damon Jackson. He caught the guillotine choke standing, and as Jackson spun his body around, the hold remained locked on for a never before seen finish.
