"I was super excited to get the finish, but above all, just to be back here, man. I'm just extremely grateful to Joe Silva, Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta for giving me the opportunity. I just wanted to do everything I could to come out here and make sure it wasn't a bad decision on their part and make sure I could start the show off with a bang and give the crowd something to look forward to for the rest of the fights.
I felt good. I definitely felt good. But it's been a long road back. I've been training since January. I was trying to fight in March. Then it turned to April. Then it turned into May. Then it turned into June. Then it turned into August, and it's just the fight game. It's unfortunate, but once again, I was very fortunate that the UFC was able to come in, pick me up and was finally able to get me the fight. I was fortunate to perform really well."
-At the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 49, Ben Saunders expressed his gratitude to the UFC for giving him an opportunity to return (via MMAJunkie.com).
Penick's Analysis: Saunders was awesome on Saturday, and seeing him actually pull off a submission win in his return was excellent. He's still got many of the same issues that have cost him some fights, but if he can be a threat on the ground as well as with his highly violent striking attack, he'll be real fun to watch for quite some time to come.
