Former RFA Champ Brian Ortega made a big impression in his UFC debut in July, taking out Mike De La Torre quickly in the first round at UFC on Fox 12. Unfortunately, that's out the window, as Sherdog.com reports that he's tested positive for anabolic steroids out of the event.
The California State Athletic Commission has fined him $2,500, suspended him for nine months, and overturned the win to a "no contest."
Ortega is the second former RFA Champ to test positive for steroids out of a UFC bout in July, following Kevin Casey, who tested positive after his fight at UFC 175.
Penick's Analysis: And so it continues. Another fighter making their way to the big stage on the back of PEDs, and now he's started off on a massive negative. He looked great in his debut, which is now tarnished immensely, and he won't be looked at the same way going forward.
