The UFC will make their debut in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in Canada on Oct. 4, and the card may have its targeted main event.
According to Ariel Helwani on Wednesday's new episode of UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 2, the UFC is looking at a welterweight bout between Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine for the night's headliner on Fox Sports 1.
The 25-year-old MacDonald is trying to keep himself busy to set up a future title fight, having defeated Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley in succession this year. That bounced him back from a decision loss to potential top contender Robbie Lawler in December of last year.
As for Saffiedine, the final Strikeforce Welterweight Champion spent most of 2013 on the sidelines, then made a successful UFC debut in January with a win over Hyun Gyu Lim in Singapore. Injuries struck again this spring, but he'll attempt to keep his own momentum going against a top competitor in MacDonald.
The Oct. 4 event on Fox Sports 1 is one of two cards that day, as the UFC will bring an event to Sweden earlier that day on UFC Fight Pass.
