"Where I grew up if someone talks any type of mess you handle it a certain way, and that's what I'm used to. As the champ things are a little different now. I'm trying to keep my composure and not get into situations... It does get under my skin at times. Except when Ben Henderson is the one doing it, because I beat him twice. That's what was supposed to happen. The UFC's job is to make challengers, not champions. If the champion is dominant, everybody is watching him because they want to see him lose it at some point. Its interesting how the whole thing works. I can't sit back and chuckle it off. It gets under my skin."
-UFC Champ Anthony Pettis talks to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about the continued trash talk he's been receiving from the lightweight field.
Penick's Analysis: Given what he's done in the past, this is only something Pettis will turn around when it comes time to get back in the cage. All it will take is a return to form in December, and if he defeats Melendez in similar fashion to how he won his last three fights, a lot of the criticism will just be shot down. From there, he'll need to fight as soon as he can, avoiding injury at the same time, and he can start to erase some of the negative flack he's gotten this year.
