Donald Cerrone vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov was set for UFC 178 this September, until it wasn't.
During a media scrum in Ireland after the UFC Fight Night 46 weigh-ins on Friday, UFC President Dana White revealed that the UFC had signed that fight, but not 20 minutes later the 25-year-old Russian blew out his knee in training.
The fight quickly came together after Cerrone beat Jim Miller on Wednesday night, but with Nurmagomedov now sidelined for a likely considerable time, the UFC will need to go a different route.
Penick's Analysis: Well, so much for that idea. That's such disappointing news. This was a fight that seemed perfect to set up, and the UFC obviously agreed with that idea. Now, Cerrone's on the lookout for anyone else at any point in time.
