Joseph Duffy (10-1) returns to Cage Warriors Fighting Championship later this year, after leaving the organisation back in 2011 to pursue a career in boxing. He went on to a (7-0) record, before deciding to make a return to MMA. Duffy has signed an exclusive five fight deal with the promotion for a minimum period of eighteen months.
Duffy is the last man to defeat fellow Irishman and UFC hot prospect Conor McGregor when the pair met in 2010 at CWFC 39. Duffy made light work of McGregor, submitting him thirty-eight seconds into the first round. He also holds first round victories over Norman Parke and Tom Maguire.
Duffy's last MMA fight was back in 2011 at CWFC 44, losing to Ivan Musardo via submission, and suffering his first professional loss.
On his return to Cage Warriors, Duffy said:
"It's been a hard few weeks and I've had some huge decisions to make. But I've decided to make a return to the cage. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to train under a world class bonding trainer in John Tandy, but it's hard to escape the fact that my heart will always be in MMA"
After seeing fighters like McGregor, Cathal Pendred, Jim Alers, and more recently Neil Seery all signed to the UFC, the announcement of Duffy's return will be welcome news to everyone!
Duffy is scheduled to make his return later in the year, when the promotion returns to Dublin, Ireland for CWFC 70 on Saturday 16th August. No opponent has yet been announced.
