The Chael Sonnen-Wanderlei Silva fight was pushed back to July 5 after having already been shuffled around a little bit in May, and Dana White said on Wednesday that the bout was moved again because Silva got himself hurt during that Ultimate Fighter set brawl.
"That fight's going to happen," White said on Wednesday after the "TUF: Nations" Finale in Quebec City (via FoxSports.com). "What happens is Wanderlei got hurt in the fight. He got double-legged on the concrete. He hurt his back. He hurt his hand punching Chael in the head. He got injured, so he couldn't fight on time because he got hurt f***ing coaching the show. It's just disgusting."
White expressed his further displeasure with the incident on the "TUF: Brazil 3" set, and said it's something that never should have happened.
"That thing was a disgusting display of what shouldn't happen, and if I was there, that would have never happened," he said. "It's as bad as it can get."
Penick's Analysis: The cynical take on White's comments here are that, as disgusting as White says it was, that didn't stop the UFC from heavily hyping that moment in the weeks leading up to the show's debut as well as the weeks into that episode itself. Regardless, it was a stupid incident, and now White's saying its to blame for Silva needing to delay the fight, even though Silva agreed to the May 31 date first and that incident had happened months ago. Whatever the reason, the fight is now (supposedly) going to happen on July 5.
