Several fighters have had their profiles removed from the active roster at UFC.com, signifying that they've received their walking papers from the UFC in the last week.
In addition to Will Chope, who was kicked out of the UFC for some past domestic violence issues prior to UFC Fight Night 38 last month, and Cristiano Marcello, who announced his retirement last week, a trio of Brazilian fighters are out of the organization as well in Ronny Markes, Thiago Perpetuo, and Rafaello Oliveira.
The 25-year-old Markes won his first three fights in the UFC, all by decision, but he lost two straight fights to Yoel Romero and Thiago Santos, both by (T)KO, in his last two outings. Additionally, he missed weight by a larger margin for the Santos fight last month.
Perpetuo's another who lost on that UFC Fight Night 38 card, suffering a quick submission loss to Kenny Robertson. That was his second straight loss as well, having been knocked out by Omari Akhmedov in his previous outing.
Oliveira, meanwhile, was knocked out in vicious fashion by Erik Koch in his last outing, putting him to 1-4 in his second UFC stint. He had lost two of three fights in his initial run in 2009 and 2010, then got brought back after several wins outside of the organization. However, he was stopped in all four of those losses from 2011 through UFC 170 in January.
Penick's Analysis: None of these are surprising at all, honestly. Markes missing weight and then getting knocked out all but assured his release, Perpetuo's two straight stoppage losses didn't help things, and Oliveira was lucky to get one more payday from the UFC with the Koch fight in the first place. Those aren't performances that keep fighters around, plain and simple.
