"The UFC, they told me, if you want a title shot, we need the fans to support [it]. So everybody out there, if they think I deserve a title shot, then tell [UFC President] Dana White. Go on Twitter, go on Facebook, MMAjunkie forums, whatever. Just keep showing that support. Come to the fights and cheer. If the fans push hard enough for it, then I'm going to get it. That's why Chael Sonnen gets title fights for no reason. He puts butts in seats... I don't really get into the whole, like, momentum, and things like that. I'm not that superstitious. I just don't really look at things like that. I forget about the past and look toward the future. I don't care what I already did. It's what I'm going to do."
-Matt Brown talks to MMAJunkie.com about what he needs in order to secure a title fight in the UFC ahead of his headlining bout with Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40.
Penick's Analysis: Brown's been on a massive run for this welterweight division, and the fact that he is stopping most of his opponents helps him immensely. That said, he's also got to beat the right opponents, and have fans clamoring for his shot. If fans are willing to pay to see him fight for a title, that obviously makes the UFC more willing to put him into that slot, and again, he's got to win the right fights to get to that point. Had he fought Carlos Condit in December as planned and beat him, he'd be very close if not already there. His path is a little longer now, but he needs to concentrate on winning fights, and if he keeps doing that, eventually he'll get that opportunity.
