UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva has been arrested tonight in South Florida after a standoff with police following an incident at Pablo Popovitch's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu center.
According to the Broward County Sheriff's office (via NBC Miami), an armed suspect went to Popovitch's school at 777 E. Oakland Park Blvd., threatening people in the building before heading home and barricading himself in his residence.
The address listed in the reports for the standoff is Silva is listed as owner in several property searches, and a separate source informed MMATorch Thursday night that Silva was the suspect in question.
As expected, Twitter began to blow up with commentary, though parsing out accurate information is difficult. Regardless of motive, Silva's threats at the gym led to the standoff at his home, where he was eventually arrested.
Police have made an arrest at scene of the standoff in Ft Lauderdale. Suspect was armed. Altercation started at Jiu-Jitsu school they say.
NBC6 in Miami has also now confirmed that Silva is the individual in custody.
The original version of this story contained unconfirmed information regarding the standoff at Silva's home. We will update with confirmed information on the charges filed once Silva is booked.
