By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief For the second time in three UFC events there was not a single submission pulled off at UFC 94. With the first eight bouts of the night all reaching the judges scorecards, only Lyoto Machida's knockout of Thiago Silva and Georges St. Pierre's four round beating of B.J. Penn were decisive. As such, the UFC doled out an additional "Fight of the Night" bonus for last night's event. Machida took home the $65,000 bonus for "Knockout of the Night," while Clay Guida, Nate Diaz, John Howard and Chris Wilson all received "Fight of the Night" honors.
Penick's Analysis: The shocking omission here was the Jon Jones vs. Stephan Bonnar fight, which I found much more exciting than the opening bout between Guida and Diaz. Jones will get his chance at these bonuses sooner rather than later as he'll be an exciting fighter to watch for a long time. Machida's was a very well deserved bonus, but honestly no one in their right minds would believe you if you told them that Lyoto Machida had the knockout of the night unless they saw it themselves.
