It didn't take long for the UFC and Fox to abandon the idea of putting preliminary card fights on Fox Sports 2. The final hour of Wednesday's preliminary card for UFC Fight Night 27 in Indianapolis was simulcast on Fox Sports 1, and Dana White revealed after that all the preliminary card fights will be on Fox Sports 1 going forward.
White said after the event that he discussed the issue with Fox Sports President Eric Shanks prior to Wednesday's event, and suggested that they make that change, and that's just what they're going to do.
Some preliminary card fights will remain on Facebook, of course, but all of the televised prelims moving forward will take place on Fox Sports 1.
Penick's Analysis: This is a move happening for a couple of reasons. For starters, Fox Sports 1's ratings have been abysmally low for everything outside of the UFC, and more UFC programming there is always welcome. But it's also the move to get everything under one roof that they discussed when FS1 was announced. They're still going to have some full events on Fox Sports 2, but for all other events having all the preliminary card fights on FS1 is the right move. Avoiding the need for channel hopping is a good thing.
