Denying Anderson Silva's assertion to GQ Brazil that his rematch with Chris Weidman is set for Dec. 28, UFC President Dana White has narrowed down four possible locations for the bout, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.
The fight will be coming, that much isn't in question, but White says that he's still working on putting the fight together, and hasn't gotten an official agreement set for a date or location from both sides.
The four locations in the running for the fight are: Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Las Vegas, New Jersey, and Brazil.
New Jersey would mean Super Bowl weekend, which White had already stated in a previous interview wasn't likely because he thought the fight should stand on its own. Vegas would mean the UFC 168 event on Dec. 28 as Silva stated, and both Brazil and Cowboys Stadium would mean moving the bout to an event not currently on the schedule.
Penick's Analysis: It wouldn't be surprising if Silva-Weidman does ultimately end up at UFC 168, and White is stalling with these comments. Silva also could have talked out of turn with things not actually set, though I'm not sure what motivation he'd have for that. Maybe he thought it was set and misunderstood. Whatever the issue, the fight's going to happen, so there isn't much concern on that front. It's just a matter of dialing down an official date and location.
