Two longtime UFC lightweights may be fighting for their spot on the roster this July, as Melvin Guillard will take on Mac Danzig at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle.
Guillard's been in the news recently after leaving the Blackzilians camp and announcing his intent to return to Greg Jackson's team in New Mexico. Unfortunately for him, the team didn't want him back, and he said this week he was on his way to Denver to train instead. His December loss to Jamie Varner marked his fourth in five fights, and this bout may be his last in the UFC if he can't pull off a win.
Danzig, the season six winner of The Ultimate Fighter, finds himself in a similar position. In a little over five years with the UFC, Danzig's record sits at 5-6, with all six losses coming in his last nine fights. He's alternated wins and losses over his last six, most recently dropping a split decision to Takanori Gomi in Macau, China in November.
UFC on Fox 8 heads to Seattle, Wash. on July 27, the second event in the city in a little over six months. The card doesn't yet have a headliner, but Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson is trying to angle for that spot in his return from injury.
