Mark Hunt will fight Junior dos Santos this May after all.
UFC President Dana White initially said this week that Hunt had turned down the fight, only to have Hunt refute that statement. Then the two had a phone conversation which, according to White, went well, and on Saturday the UFC announced that Hunt will step in for the injured Alistair Overeem against JDS at UFC 160 in Las Vegas.
Hunt rallied for the fight following his fourth straight win in the Octagon, which came last weekend when he broke Stefan Struve's jaw to take a third round TKO win. He'll now get to step up against the former Champion in what will be perhaps the most important fight of his career to date.
Dos Santos was hoping to settle his differences with Overeem after both suffered losses in December and February, respectively. But Overeem's injury pushed him back several weeks, and dos Santos was ready to go against the surging Hunt.
Their bout will serve as the co-main event at UFC 160 on May 25, under the headlining Heavyweight Championship bout between Cain Velasquez and Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva.
