Nearly 14 months after suffering his first loss in the UFC and losing his UFC Heavyweight Championship to Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez recaptured the belt on Saturday night at UFC 155 in a one-sided unanimous decision.
The fight was essentially settled in the first round when Velasquez knocked dos Santos down with a huge right. That punch took dos Santos out of the fight for the next round and a half, and both fighters were completely worn out down the stretch.
Velasquez kept pressure on in the clinch, but dos Santos started regaining some life in the final 15 minutes. It left a lingering sense that more dramatics were on the way, but dos Santos was unable to put anything together as Velasquez slowed down.
In the end, dos Santos' face was a swollen mess, and Velasquez handed him his first loss inside the Octagon. The new Champion has now avenged his only career loss, and evened the score after the 64-second KO loss last year.
