For the second straight season, a coaches bout from The Ultimate Fighter will not take place, as Shane Carwin has pulled out of his TUF 16 Finale headliner with Roy Nelson.
UFC President Dana White announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday.
"WOW!! It never ends Carwin blew his knee out," White said. "Looking for a new opponent for Roy on the TUF Finale on FX."
The event takes place on Dec. 15 in Las Vegas, airing live on FX, and will feature the finals of the TUF 16 welterweight tournament.
Penick's Analysis: There were rumors of a knee injury to Carwin several weeks ago, but the UFC went ahead and announced the event and put tickets on sale for the card. That could have been Carwin's camp holding back information, or him trying to fight through it and ultimately being unable to, but regardless, he's out, and Nelson will get a new opponent on Dec. 15.
