UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will finally step back into the Octagon on Saturday night at UFC 154, returning to his hometown of Montreal to take on Interim UFC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit.
St-Pierre's coming back after a serious knee injury which needed to be repaired surgically, and he's taking on one of the more difficult challenges he's yet faced in his MMA career. But St-Pierre is entering the event with plenty of confidence, and expects to remain Champion come the end of Saturday night.
"I am very confident," St-Pierre said on Tuesday's new edition of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV. "You know I am the best I can be. I focus on things I can control and one thing I can promise to everyone is I am the best GSP there has been and I am going to give it all there and I am going to get the victory."
Penick's Analysis: You can choose to buy into St-Pierre's confidence and his statements into this fight or not, but I'm definitely in the camp who wants to see a return of the best possible version of the long-reigning champ. I believe this fight just from a matchup standpoint makes for a really exciting fight, and I think the pressure that Condit will force on St-Pierre will make him fight a more aggressive fight in response. It's a great title fight, it's an immensely exciting return, and I can't wait to see it play out on Saturday.
