Thiago Silva picked up his first official win since 2009 on Saturday, submitting Stanislav Nedkov in the co-main event of UFC on Fuel 6 in Macao, China.
Things weren't looking great for him through the first two rounds. Nedkov kept things ugly by mostly attempting - and failing - to take Silva down against the cage. But the pressure and feigned control likely gave him the first round. Then he took the second with a knockdown late in the round.
But Silva turned the tide in the final frame, cracking Nedkov with a right, then taking him to the ground. In short order he moved towards an arm triangle choke, passed to side control, and forced the tap.
The win was his first since defeating Keith Jardine back in 2009. He did defeat Brandon Vera last January, but the win was overturned to a no contest after a failed drug test. The loss for Nedkov was the first in his 13-fight career.
