Glover Teixeira delivered one of the more brutal beatings the UFC's Octagon has ever seen on Saturday night at UFC 153. Fabio Maldonado ultimately had to be saved from himself, as doctors called a stop to the bout in between the second and third rounds.
Teixeira hurt Maldonado early, dropping him with a series of punches on the cage and moving to the ground attack. He secured mount in short order, and for the next several minutes battered Maldonado's head and face with elbows and strikes from the top. Maldonado absorbed the ridiculous amount of punishment, until ultimately the fight was stood up.
As he stood, Maldonado was clearly hurt badly, wobbly against the cage. Teixeira landed a few strikes, and then Maldonado landed a huge left hook in desperation that hurt Teixeira. Still, his face was a mess and he had taken a ton of punishment before getting to the end of the round.
The beating continued in the second, as Teixeira got him down again a few times and battered him with elbows and punches. Ultimately, his face was too badly damaged and doctors stopped the fight after the end of the second round.
Teixeira now has two straight wins in the UFC, following up on his submission win over Kyle Kingsbury from earlier this year. Maldonado has now lost three straight fights in the UFC.
