After a week in a Minneapolis jail cell, UFC lightweight Jeremy Stephens is finally out of Minnesota. However, he's still in custody, as he was transported to Iowa on Thursday afternoon, where he is now locked up at the Polk County jail.
Stephens was arrested Friday morning at his hotel room in Minneapolis, where he had been staying ahead of his scheduled fight at UFC on FX 5 last Friday night. UFC President Dana White attempted to get him released in order to compete on the card, but was ultimately unsuccessful in that effort.
The 26-year-old was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Polk County, Iowa, stemming from an alleged assault in 2011. Stephens and his camp have maintained his innocence throughout, but nevertheless, he remains in custody.
He's currently been charged with felony assault for causing body injury or mental illness, of which he's being held for $1,000 bail, but it's the second felony assault charge, for willful injury, that has him in trouble. He's being held on $100,000 bail on the charge, and will remain in custody until that is posted, or until his next court date.
