UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones nearly injured his arm last month when he got caught in an armbar against Vitor Belfort at UFC 152. He survived the hold, going on to win the bout with a submission of his own in the fourth round.
There was concern over an injury to Jones' arm, especially when he said after the fight that it had popped and it felt numb during the fight. The worry was that there could be some nerve damage to the arm, and he was going to get it checked out in the week following the fight.
UFC President Dana White gave a brief update on Jones' status on Friday after UFC on FX 5 in Minneapolis, and the outlook is all positive.
"Yeah, Jones is great, he's fine," White told MMATorch on Friday. "[Nothing wrong] that I'm aware of. I'm talking to his people daily; he's good."
Penick's Analysis: White didn't go any further into the light heavyweight division on Friday, but the fact that Jones is doing fine is a good thing. He's not going to need a lengthy rehab, and he won't need to be held out of action for an overly extended period of time. Because of that, I'd expect we still see Jones fight by Super Bowl weekend 2013. Who that comes against is a different story entirely, but for now, the prognosis is good for Jones.
