Travis Browne was the betting favorite coming into his main event fight with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, and he fought like he knew it.
Browne came out in the first round throwing wheel kicks and other strikes that you normally wouldn't see from a heavyweight standing six feet five inches tall. He bounced around the cage as though he hadn't a care in the world. That ended when Silva caught Browne with a straight right hand as a counter to one of Browne's more elaborate strikes.
Browne then appeared to injure his knee at some point, reportedly while attempting a high kick. Silva backed him against the cage and unleashed a right hand that almost decapitated the Hawaiian, who suffered his first career loss tonight.
The victory was a significant one for Silva - his first in the UFC, and one that reminded fans and fighters alike that he is not to be taken lightly. A fight with Stefan Struve seems logical next, and that would certainly be a welcome matchup for a heavyweight division that has seen two big knockout finishes in two weeks.
