By Alex Williams, MMATorch Contributor FiveOuncesofPain.com reports that the UFC has released Marcus Aurelio from his contract. Aurelio debuted in the organization in August 2007, following the UFC's acquisition of Pride FC.
Aurelio shocked fans and pundits with his sub-five minute submission win over top-ranked Takanori Gomi in April 2006. Since that time, however, the 35-year old has gone 2-5, losing to Mitsuhiro Ishida, Gomi (in a rematch), Clay Guida, Tyson Griffin, and Hermes Franca. The loses to Guida and Griffin/Franca came in the UFC, separated by wins over the unrenowned Luke Caudillo and Ryan Roberts. Williams' MMA News Blog: UFC Cuts Marcus Aurelio
