The UFC will have to make some adjustments to their fourth event on Fox, as Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com reports that Brian Stann is injured and out of his expected headlining fight with Hector Lombard on August 4 in Los Angeles.
Per the report, Stann has suffered a shoulder injury. However, it will not require surgery, keeping him out of action just six to eight weeks, though it does take him out of this fight. Stann would have been entering the fight off an excellent performance over Alessio Sakara in April, but will now have to wait to follow up on that bout.
Lombard - who vacated his Bellator Middleweight Championship to sign with the UFC - will likely get a replacement opponent for this event, though it may not be in the night's main event. The 34-year-old Lombard is unbeaten since 2006, going 24-0 with one draw in his last 25 fights.
Penick's Analysis: The obvious choice to replace Stann in this fight is Alan Belcher, who just took out Rousimar Palhares on the last Fox card. It's not a main-event worthy fight, but then again Lombard-Stann wasn't really either. With Lyoto Machida already on this card, they may be best suited to take him out of the fight with Ryan Bader, move Mauricio "Shogun" Rua from UFC 149, and have their trilogy bout headline a Fox card. That would leave Bader without a fight for the moment, but would make for a better selling headliner for the Fox card than what they had before.
