The Ultimate Fighter's first season on FX came to a close on Friday night, with Michael Chiesa becoming the latest winner of the reality show.
Chiesa's story was at the forefront all season considering how things got started. The weekend after he won his elimination fight and moved into the house, his father passed away after a battle with leukemia. He was flown home for a few days to be with his family, but then came back to the house, where he was then cut off from them for the next 12 weeks.
He had some rough fights throughout the season, but ultimately made his way to Friday's Finale, and made the most of the moment. After enduring some offense from Iaquinta, Chiesa brought the fight to the ground a couple minutes into the round. He ducked under a strike, grabbed a body lock, and tripped Iaquinta down while taking his back.
After locking both hooks in, he began working from the back. He then secured a rear naked choke, and Iaquinta didn't have a chance to tap as he went out cold trying to fight out of the hold.
With the win, Chiesa won a Harley Davidson motorcycle, along with the UFC contract and a three-fight sponsorship deal with TapouT.
