Want to know how to avoid getting your leg ripped off by a vicious submission specialist? UFC middleweight Alan Belcher hopes you do, as he'll be hosting a free web seminar this Thursday night, May 24, at 8:30PM ET on the defense of leg holds in MMA.
Fighters, fans, or anyone who wishes to take part in the webinar can register for one of a limited number of spots at www.AlanBelcherSeminars.com, where Thursday's event will be streamed.
Belcher's surprising adeptness in this aspect of the fight game was impressively on display in his bout with Rousimar Palhares earlier this month at UFC on Fox 3. Going against what most felt was in his best interest, Belcher didn't shy away from Palhares' ground game, fending off multiple attempts at a knee bar or heel hook from the Brazilian leg snatcher. In surviving the attacks, Belcher then got into Palhares' guard and delivered a vicious string of ground strikes, leading to the stoppage win.
Now, according to a press release, he'd like to show a limited number of people the techniques he and his team "developed to block, counter, evade and escape foot locks, knee bars and toe holds." Additionally, Thursday's webinar will attempt to teach "how to escape dangerous positions and the exact drills Belcher used to prepare for Palhares' leg holds."
In addition to Belcher, Lyle Henley, billed as an MMA strength and conditioning expert, will show off movements to improve speed and reaction in escaping submissions.
Penick's Analysis: This is a really smart follow up for Belcher. Though there are only a limited number of spots available for this, it's smart to put something like this together with how impressive he was earlier this month. It keeps his name out there, and gives those who take part a chance to get some insight into how he managed to pull off what he did against Palhares. This should be an interesting and informative seminar, and seeing as its free anyone who gets registered in time isn't out any money while getting some valuable information.
