Jose Aldo officially has his opponent for UFC 149 in Calgary, as the UFC announced on Monday that he will indeed defend his Featherweight Championship against Erik Koch on the July 21 card.
Aldo will attempt to defend the belt for the fourth time in the UFC, and the sixth overall going back to the WEC. Most recently, he knocked out Chad Mendes in January at the end of the first round. That followed decision wins over both Mark Hominick and Kenny Florian.
Koch returns to action for the first time since last September, where he defeated Ultimate Fighter winner Jonathan Brookins via decision at UFC Fight Night 25. That win was his fourth straight, bringing his career record to 13-1 overall. The Duke Roufus product has a chance to become the second youngest champion in UFC history at just 23-years-old.
Tickets for the event go on sale to the public this Saturday, May 12, ranging from $105.75 CAD to $716.75 CAD. UFC Fight Club members get a presale on Thursday, May 10, while UFC Newsletter subscribers get access to tickets on Friday, May 11.
