The loss of Alistair Overeem hasn't halted plans for a UFC Primetime series for UFC 146, as the three-part documentary program will go on as planned.
As scheduled, it will follow UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos, but it will now be Frank Mir in the opposite spot, with three episodes airing on FX this month in the lead up to their May 26 title showdown on pay-per-view.
The show will premiere next Friday, May 11, at 11PM ET following "The Ultimate Fighter: Live" on FX, followed by new episodes on May 18 and May 25 in the same timeslot. Replays will air on Fuel TV, and it all leads into the pay-per-view event itself in Las Vegas.
This will be the second time the program has featured dos Santos, though that was just a one-off episode for the UFC on Fox card. It will be Mir's first appearance with the Primetime format, though he's been in extended "Countdown" scenes before.
Penick's Analysis: It's always interesting to get new faces into the Primetime series, and getting a full three episode lead up for dos Santos is a good idea. The card is going to suffer somewhat from a pay-per-view standpoint because of all the shakeups, but this is a way to try garnering more interest for this fight. Most don't give Mir much of a chance against dos Santos, but that doesn't mean it's impossible for him to win, and this series can help play that idea up.
