With the shuffling of fights this summer and question marks surrounding a number of events, UFC President Dana White revealed that the Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson could take place as early as UFC 149 in July.
However, Jones' manager Malki Kawa has put the kibosh on that notion, saying the Champ isn't going to be ready for that quick of a turnaround.
He will not be fighting in July," Kawa said in an interview with MMAFighting.com. "It's just probably a little too soon. There's been no timetable yet but July probably isn't going to happen."
"Jon's going to take a little time to himself, and then he'll get back into it."
That time off won't keep him out that long, though, as Kawa expects him to return in either August or September, but that hasn't yet been decided.
Penick's Analysis: Jones has fought five times in 14 months already, if he wants to take a little rest, he's more than earned it. July was at the very early end of feasible, and August or September makes a lot more sense for him after getting one of the biggest fights of his young career behind him. This will be a great fight regardless of when it happens, and there's no need to rush his return back if he wants to take a little extra time.
