The UFC will return to the state of Florida this June for the first time in over three years, as Southern Florida has won the UFC and Harley-Davidson's Hometown Throwdown contest.
UFC on FX 3 will now emanate from the BankAtlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on June 8, headlined by the flyweight rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall. The UFC announced the location and venue on Thursday.
The location was determined by a fan vote, and the UFC is giving fans even more power over the card, giving them the ability to determine which fight will kick off the main card broadcast on FX. By going to ufc.com/hometownthrowdown, fans can vote on one of three bouts for that opening slot: Scott Jorgensen vs. Eddie Wineland, Carlos Eduardo Rocha vs. Mike Pierce, or Lance Benoist vs. Seth Baczynski.
"I'm excited to bring the UFC back to Florida!" UFC President Dana White said. "The first fight between Johnson and McCall was incredible, and on June 8, they will finally finish the fight to determine who is going to fight for the first-ever flyweight title."
"We are thrilled and honored to welcome the UFC to the BankAtlantic Center for the first time in our history," said SSE President & COO Michael R. Yormark. "The UFC represents the pinnacle of mixed martial arts and one of the greatest live sports spectacles in the world, so it is fitting that South Florida's premier entertainment destination – the BankAtlantic Center – will now be hosting a UFC event for the first time."
Tickets for the event go on sale next Friday, April 13, though ticket prices have not yet been announced. As always, UFC Fight Club members will have a presale two days early, while UFC newsletter subscribers get a presale a day earlier than the general on-sale date.
