After a successful return to the UFC in February at UFC 143, Fabricio Werdum has his next booking in the Octagon, as MMAFighting.com reports that Werdum will take on Mike Russow on the UFC's return card to Brazil.
Werdum defeated Roy Nelson last month in his first fight in the UFC since 2008. The dominant decision win was his fourth win in his last five fights, and one of the most impressive performances he's had in his career.
Russow moved his winning streak to 11 in his last bout, notching his fourth straight win in the UFC with a decision over Jon Olav Einemo.
The UFC's return to Brazil is expected to come on June 16, with a headlining Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.
Penick's Analysis: This matchup is likely only being put together because Werdum wanted to fight in Brazil. Russow's not a large name, and even though he's got a four fight winning streak, he may be seen by some as a step down from Nelson on the pecking order. There's not a ton for Werdum to gain outside of just getting another win, but it's a definite challenge and an opportunity for Russow to get a big win.
