We're only three days removed from UFC 143 and the Interim Welterweight Title bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit, and a swirl of rematch talk has turned into reality already.
@FrontRowBrian on Twitter first reported that both Diaz and Condit's camp were in talks for the fight, though both sides were denying it as nothing more than a rumor. However, UFC President Dana White then confirmed that the rematch will take place, stating Condit would be coming to Las Vegas on Friday to sign on for the bout.
Though Diaz said he was "done with this s***" in the cage on Saturday night, White said he wanted the rematch right away. While the word from Condit's camp was that they didn't want a rematch, White claims that also wasn't the case, and said Condit wanted it as well.
There's no word yet on when the fight will take place, but a leading candidate might be the Memorial Day Weekend UFC 146 event in Las Vegas.
Penick's Analysis: If Condit was told Georges St-Pierre is out until November for sure, and perhaps longer, another fight makes sense for him. He had no real reason to take a rematch with Diaz outside of monetary reasons, however, so there's likely some serious money in taking the rematch. If he defeats Diaz a second time, he'll finally get the fight with St-Pierre, but if Diaz can defeat him in any way that bout will be his despite the 1-1 mark he'd have with Condit at that point.
