Tito Ortiz has been angling to finish out his career in a third fight with Forrest Griffin, and on Monday's edition of Inside MMA on HDNet, Ortiz once again called Griffin out for a fight.
"Forrest, you know I deserve it, man," Ortiz said. "Step up. Let's do this. It's an awesome fight for you. I lost my last one. You lost your last one. Let's do this - unless you're scared!"
Ortiz has lost more than just his "last one," and though Griffin is just 2-3 in his last five, he's in a higher position overall than Ortiz. Still, if it's what the UFC wants, it's a fight Griffin will take, and he sees it as an easy fight.
"He knows better than that," Griffin said. "You know what's funny about me and Tito? The truth is we each consider the other an easy fight. For me, that's the perfect 'get right' fight. Coming back from a bad loss and beating Tito Ortiz up? No problem.
"For Tito, he's thinking, 'Forrest ain't that good. He's getting old, prematurely. This is a great way to go out, with a win over Forrest!' So, I think it's a beautiful match up because we both think of the other as an easy fight."
Penick's Analysis: This fight is really only that interesting to Ortiz, and probably Ortiz alone. Griffin's willing to go along with it if the UFC wants to put it together, but in the light heavyweight division there are more fights to make for Griffin outside of an Ortiz rematch. Still, we'll see if there's a call for it at all, or if the UFC will put something else together for Ortiz's final fight sometime this summer.
