The sudden change to next week's UFC on Fox 2 card in Chicago has resulted in an even bigger middleweight fight than what was previously scheduled. The bout between Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping is a fantastic matchup, and has lead many to excitement over the trash talk that could come between the two in the next week.
"I've never been clear on what respect means," Sonnen responded when asked if he respected his British opponent. "I hear [the word] thrown around a lot, and how it equates to a lowly cage fighter is beyond me."
"I don't get caught up anything this isn't Chael P. Sonnen. I look out for No. 1," he continued. "They have got the Oxford English Dictionary, and it if wasn't thanks to us, it would be the Oxford GERMAN Dictionary."
Even when presented with comments from Bisping, who said Sonnen couldn't knock him out or submit him in their fight next weekend, Sonnen's response was fairly tame.
"Let him have fun," Sonnen said. "There is only one Mona Lisa, one Leaning Tower of Pisa, one Saks 5th Avenue and one Chael P. Sonnen. I have been putting the finishing touches on my preparation. When I am done, I'll tackle the scales. The match itself is down the road."
Penick's Analysis: These comments came just hours after the switch in opponents was revealed yesterday, and we're likely to get a considerably less-measured response from Sonnen in the next 10 days. However, it's interesting to see the swings in Sonnen's modes from interview to interview. It's really impossible to predict what types of responses he'll provide, and depending on the interview, the interviewer, the platform, and the proximity to a fight, he'll have something entirely different to say in an entirely different tone.
