Less than three weeks after an ill-advised rape joke on Twitter got him fired, Miguel Torres is back in the UFC. The bantamweight fighter appeared with UFC President Dana White after the UFC 141 pre-fight press conference on Wednesday, with White announcing that he is back in the UFC.
White told reporters in a media scrum after the press conference that Torres was remorseful over the Tweet, and without any provocation went and donated money to local rape centers in his area. According to Ariel Helwani on Twitter, White said "Torres handled his business like a man and no one told him to do it."
Penick's Analysis: It's not at all surprising that he's been brought back in. There was already a backlash over inconsistent treatment of Torres when Rashad Evans and Forrest Griffin had written or said similarly unacceptable comments in public, and it comes down to said fighters appeasing White at the end of the day. Torres eventually did something about the mistake he made, and it got his foot back in the door. Hopefully this can at least lead to a little more tact from the UFC's fighters in public comments, but regardless, Torres is back in the organization.
