Brendan Schaub may have picked himself a fight.
In an interview last week for THQ, Schaub mentioned Fabricio Werdum as a fighter he'd be interested in facing next. Word quickly got to Werdum, and he took to Twitter to respond to what he saw as a call out from Schaub.
"Brendan Schaub, I'm ready for you. Anytime, anywhere."
Schaub then responded in another interview, this time with MMAWeekly.com, and made it clear he's ready as well.
"It’s nothing disrespectful in any way," Schaub said about initially wanting to fight Werdum. "I think Werdum is No. 5 in the world in some rankings, an absolute nightmare, and man he got word of that and I woke up this morning to about 10 missed calls and 20 text messages and my Twitter is just blowing up with Werdum saying he’s ready for me anytime."
“I’m like Marty McFly from ‘Back to the Future,' Don’t call me a chicken, tell me where to sign. I don’t back down. I would definitely take that fight if it was offered."
Penick's Analysis: It was speculated that the UFC was looking to pit Werdum against Shane Carwin this December prior to Carwin needing back surgery, though Werdum officially still hasn't signed to return to the UFC. If they do pick him up, I think this would be a fight that makes a lot of sense, especially with both willing to take it. Schaub's coming off the loss to Antonio Minotauro Nogueira in August, while Werdum would be returning for the first time since his loss to Alistair Overeem. If the UFC wants to go this route it would work.
