The Ultimate Fighter review
June 4, 2008
By Frank Hyden
The
episode starts off with the customary recap of the previous week's
fight. Afterward, Jeremy May keeps saying he wants a rematch against
Matt Brown. He claims that the fight would go differently and he keeps
jabbering on like an idiot about wanting to fight Matt again. Matt
tells everyone what Jeremy said. It's pretty unanimous that everyone
hates Jeremy. Jesse Taylor is the most vocal about it and he lets loose
a torrent of expletives about Jeremy. Later, Jeremy is talking to
Gerald Harris about how he plans on antagonizing Jesse into hitting him
to get Jesse kicked off the show. Jeremy kicks his plan into gear as he
and Jesse trade insults. It's hard to make anything out as they get
bleeped more than Dana White but apparently Jeremy says something about
Jews or whatever and Jesse takes great offense. He kicks at Jeremy but
the other fighters prevent anything of substance from going down.
The first fight this week is Tim Creduer vs. Daniel Cramer. Neither one gets a training montage but the weigh-in is shown.
FIGHT- Tim Creduer vs. Daniel Cramer
Tim has a 1 inch height advantage but Daniel has a 1.25 inch reach advantage. Herb Dean is the official.
ROUND
1- Dan takes Tim down. On their feet, Dan lands some nice shots and
throws a flurry of blows. Tim goes to the ground and surprises Dan with
a heel hook for the submission victory.
WINNER- Tim Creduer by heel hook
The
second fight tonight will be CB Dollaway vs. Cale Yarbrough. CB
dislikes Cale and is training hard to beat him. CB is extremely
overconfident in his own abilities. Cale is also training hard for this
fight. Forrest Griffin calls CB an arrogant jerk. The teams are allowed
to go have some fun outside the house. It's time for some go-kart
racing. Rampage wins and is extremely pleased. Later, the fighters
decide to get drunk and they smash up the house. Walls are busted, a
window is broken, the banister is tore up and good times are had by all
the louts.
FIGHT- CB Dollaway vs. Cale Yarbrough
CB has a 1 inch height advantage and a 4.75 inch reach advantage. Herb Dean is the official.
ROUND 1- CB gets a takedown and starts throwing elbows. He's also
throwing punches. CB takes Cale's back and pounds on him until Herb
Dean is forced to step in and stop it.
WINNER- CB Dollaway by TKO
Dana White actually sits there and says that CB is well-rounded. Based
on the fights so far, CB looks as well-rounded as a triangle. Forrest
wants someone to shut up CB. Jesse says he wants to fight CB. Rampage
is late the next morning so Dana and Forrest get together to decide the
next round match-ups. CB wants Tim, Tim wants Amir, Amir doesn't care,
and Jesse hems and haws until he finally says he wants Amir. Rampage
had overslept and that was why he was late. Dana announces that the
match-ups for the semifinals are CB vs. Amir and Jesse vs. Tim.
The fights this week aren't going to make anyone's highlight reels. Tim
had a really good heel hook out of nowhere but the fight was pretty
short. It was a really nice win for him, though, and shows off his
experience. CB's win over Cale is a possible horrible portend of things
to come. His fighting style is so rudimentary you have to wonder where
exactly this arrogance comes from. It's a caveman ground and pound that
reminds me of Tommy Speer and Matt Hamill. I have no problem with him
being proud of his wrestling skills but he needs to realize that those
skills will only take him so far. I think that Amir is going to KO CB
and Tim will submit Jesse because Amir and Tim are the most talented of
the remaining fighters. CB and Jesse are just ground and pound guys who
should be exposed by more skilled fighters. Neither one has shown jack
in their fights. And the less said about Jeremy May the better. I don't
know if the guy's trying to be the next big villain in MMA but he
hasn't shown much in the octagon so I don't want to spend a lot of time
talking about him. Maybe if he rematches against Matt Brown at the
finale and smokes him we might have reason to care. Until then, there's
more important things to discuss.
NEXT WEEK- The Coach's Challenge and Jesse vs. Tim.
