Two words. Cain Velasquez.
Whoever wins the main event between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin at UFC 116 this Saturday night will celebrate their victory, and deservedly so. However, they will quickly have to start worrying about their next big challenge.
That would be Velasquez.
Cain has been awaiting the winner of this fight since his last victory in February, and he has done plenty to earn it. I am sure he will be watching very carefully as Lesnar and Carwin take the cage.
He has looked absolutely unstoppable in all of his UFC fights so far, and seems to get better and better every time. From watching his beatings of Kongo and Rothwell, as well as his KO of Big Nog, you know that this kid is for real. He could also, potentially, be a very bad matchup for whichever fighter wins this Saturday.
Pound for pound, he is the possibly the best wrestler in the heavyweight division, and maybe in the whole UFC. He also posesses some incredibly fluid striking and some vicious ground and pound. His gas tank also seems to be unending, which is a question with both Lesnar and Carwin. The thing that both of these men have on him, however, is raw size and strength, which could be very important.
Cain will have a lot of ways to win a fight with either man, he may be able to take each down and work his favored ground and pound, and he may be able to out strike each of them on the feet. Heck, he is rumored to even have a solid submission game, so you never know. The size of Lesnar and Carwin will be a problem, though, and if he can't drag them to the ground or avoid their power, he could be in trouble.
Lesnar and Carwin shouldn't get too cozy as champion should they win what is certainly the biggest fight of their lives this Saturday, because they've got a lot of work to do, as a new challenge is just around the corner.
